  1. Watercolpur painting is a method of painting 
  2. with pigments mixed with water, known in 
  3. China as early as the 3rd century. The art as 
  4. practised today began in England in the 18th 
  5. century with the work of Paul Sandby and was 
  6. developed by Thomas Girtin, John Sell Cotman, 
  7. and J M W Turner. The technique of 
  8. watercolour painting requires great skill 
  9. since its transparency rules out 
  10. overpainting.
